Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I enroll directly as a high school student?
At the moment, we are currently offering our courses through high school administrator enrollment. You should contact your relevant high school administrator to sign up for classes to be offered at your high school. Every attendee will be able to make an account with our organization and be able to access materials individually after the first class concludes.
  • What are the criteria for Modulus courses to be offered at our school?
In order for Modulus courses to be offered at your school, you must not have a pre-existing research program or service for students in grades 6-12 in New York City.
  • How often are classes held? Is there a limit on class size? A limit on course offerings at a particular school?
Classes can be held as frequently as the school requests. We typically recommend a class every two weeks (though it depends on the schedule of the host school and instructors). There is no limits on class size per se, but to maximize the benefit for students enrolled, we recommend class sizes of 15-20 students maximum. We also don't place a limit on course offerings, however, some courses are better suited for students in higher grades or with more research experience than others, which we designate accordingly on the website.
  • Are zoom/virtual options available?
Yes, a virtual option is available. We will require on-camera attendance for students attending unless there is explicit technical difficulty that prevents them from doing so.
  • Do I have to take all of the classes in sequence, or can I skip around the levels?
All classes must be taken in sequence in Level One. Levels Two and Three are more flexible and administrators can select whichever classes they would like to schedule.
  • How do I proceed after I complete the forms for my desired courses?
After completing the forms, administrators should expect an email within 1-2 weekdays from the Modulus Research team that will confirm the date and time scheduled as well as provide logistical information for the class.
  • Are virtual options available for interested schools outside NYC?
Yes! Though the initiative focuses its efforts within NYC, it is not exclusive to the NYC area.
  • How can I volunteer with Modulus?
In order to volunteer with us, you must meet the following criteria: - You are a Bachelor's degree candidate or already have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in the sciences or social sciences. - You are at least 18 years old. - You have conducted research in the past or are currently conducting research and can provide evidence of this research (e.g. through a paper, poster presentation, or faculty recommendation).
